TANIA TORRES-HALAIS
Counsel
Tania Torres-Halais is Counsel in the Firm. She is a trial lawyer focusing on state and federal litigation matters, advising clients in various aspects of civil law, primarily breach of contract, torts, creditor’s and mortgagee’s rights. Tania represents clients in the Puerto Rico State Court, the Puerto Rico Court of Appeals, the Puerto Rico Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court, District of Puerto Rico.
Tania has ample experience providing zealous advocacy and keeping abreast of the latest changes to laws and court decisions. She also expands her dispute-solving client representation in diverse legal matters, with special devotion to day-to-day employment matters, including topics of hiring or terminating employees, wage and hour issues, individual rights, and others, making clear and transparent recommendations to corporate clients. Tania also has experience in drafting and negotiating complex voluntary separation agreements in representation of the employer.
Prior to joining the firm in 2017, Tania was a Securities Litigation & Arbitration Attorney for a firm where she handled securities law cases in lawsuits against brokerage firms in Puerto Rico and the U.S., representing claimants who suffered economic injuries after the stock-market decline. Several years after joining the firm, Tania decided to pursue other ventures, joining a well-known law firm as Senior Litigation Counsel, where she focused on disputes involving lease agreements, lender’s rights, mortgagee’s rights, lessee’s rights, torts, foreclosures, and title insurance, with a client roster across multiple industries. Clients included one of the largest banks in Puerto Rico, national title insurance companies, and one of the nation’s top superstores, a blue-chip company. Given Tania’s extensive background in mortgagee’s rights acquired at Pirillo Law, Tania was also able to join as Associate Counsel at a national mortgage lender, where, among many others, she negotiated vendor contracts, while monitoring alignment of vendor performance with the company’s goals and contractual compliance. On a regular basis, she provided the company with practical and actionable advice with respect to matters mainly regarding mortgage law in a fast-paced and highly demanding environment, while taking into consideration the large industry in which it operates. She additionally supervised, in collaboration with the General Counsel and the Executive Vice President, civil cases at local and federal courts assigned to outside counsel to safeguard the company’s interests. She also served as the direct liaison with the Human Resources Manager to ensure compliance with employment law.
During law school, Tania was a member of the Legal Aid Clinic of the Interamerican University School of Law where she gained litigation experience, successfully representing victims of domestic violence in court.

Tania is known for her sagacity, attentiveness to her clients, superb writing skills and attention to detail as to every aspect of a case, which has consistently resulted in her clients’ achievements of their specific goals.
